Miscarriages
Unfortunately, miscarriages are common. My wife had a miscarriage workup that proved negative. She wound up with 4 miscarriages and 4 babies. It is even more devastating coming after a precious IVF attempt with all the emotional and financial investment involved.
The fact is, unless you are known to have a repeatable cause for miscarrying, the conception itself proves the fertility of your eggs and your husband's sperm and increases the likelihood of success in subsequent attempts.
My advice is first rule out causes of miscarriages that may recur such as a clotting disorder, anatomic problem in the uterine cavity like polyp or fibroid, thyroid disorder or hereditary chromosomal problems.
There is a lot of print on the internet about autoimmune causes of infertility and miscarriage. The American Society for Reproductive Medicine does not recommend this testing or treatment for problems found from this testing. They say there is insufficient evidence for it and the treatment cost and risk is excessive.
Consult with your physician, get support from your spouse, your friends, join a support group like one we have at East Coast Fertility. And, when you are ready, try it again. Your miscarriage meant in all likelihood that everything worked except by chance you had an abnormal egg that fertilized. A risk that increases with age and best overcome by trying again. It's like throwing a die and trying to come up with a number greater than 3. The more times you throw it, the better the odds become that your number is next.
Best of luck!
